This 38-year-old mother of three was considering breast augmentation in St. Louis and came to my practice for a consultation to learn more about her options. She is 5’8” tall and weighs 121 lb. She was a 34 B cup and wanted to be more proportional. Her preoperative exam showed thin soft tissues and slight breast asymmetry. I recommended breast augmentation with removal of skin around the nipple-areolar complex. Breast implants were placed via incisions around the areola. This incision method allows me to hide the resulting scars in the naturally-darkened areola skin. After reviewing her implant options, the patient chose smooth silicone gel implants, which I placed underneath the chest muscle to help create a more natural-looking appearance. Each silicone gel implant had a volume of 340 cc with a base diameter of 12.4 cm. Her photographs at six weeks show a nice improvement in overall shape and symmetry. She is now a 36 B. The breasts have remained soft. The incisions around the nipples, which are not even very noticeable just a short time after breast augmentation at my St. Louis practice, will continue to fade over time. The final results will not be fully noticeable for 3 to 6 months, though the patient already is enjoying a much more proportional appearance both in and out of clothing.
