Leg spider veins are commonly associated with varicose veins. They are much more common in women, and are usually noticed after pregnancy. Spider veins develop from reticular veins, also known as 'feeder veins'. Feeder veins form a network of blue veins deeper in the skin and sometimes give a marbled appearance to the skin.

Leg spider veins are treated by sclerotherapy and laser treatments. Sclerotherapy is the preferred first line of treatment for leg spider veins. Sclerotherapy not only treats the unsightly spider veins, but also the underlying feeder veins they originate from. Sclerotherapy involves the injection of the tiny blood vessels with a solution that causes the vessel to collapse and disappear in 2-3 months. The smaller spider veins that are too small for sclerotherapy can then be treated by the Alma® Nd Yag Laser.
